Heat Treated vs Seasoned?
Seasoned wood describes wood that has been cut and air dried for a period of time. While seasoned wood burns better than green wood, it cannot guarantee the product to be insect and mold or fungus free.
Heat-treated wood undergoes a process in a kiln to eliminate any harmful pests and substances. Only wood that has been heat-treated at 160 degrees for 75 minutes can be certified by the MN Department of Agriculture as “Safe to Move”.

Safe to Move?
Wood designated as “Safe to Move” means that the MN Dept of Agriculture has evaluated and approved a business’s processing, drying, and packaging methods as sufficient to produce wood that will not cause harm to the environment. Preventing the spread of harmful insects is the main focus of regulating the transportation of wood.

Benefits to Kiln-dried?
It’s easier to start a fire with kiln-dried wood! Kiln-dried wood burns more efficiently, meaning a greater amount of heat is produced from the same volume of wood. It is easier to light, burns hotter and longer, creates less smoke, and smells great.
